Millennial Revival
There is an all year peak for millennial trends and I'm wondering aren't we millennials "cringe" anymore? Iiiiiinteresting.
I’m not a big TikTok fan, which might be the brightest sign of me being a millennial, the little time I have spent in this platform I have bumped into hundreds of videos of Gen-Z making fun of my generation. My TikTok algorithm is mainly about fashion thus the Gen-Z vs Millenial videos I have consumed, are mainly about fashion choices of the two generations and mainly about Gen-Z judging us and skinny jeans worn with Uggs and long cable knit cardigans, which I get it it’s not the epitome of fashion but it’s part of an era which is long gone now. Or maybe not? 😈
I’m officially a millennial, however I was born right at the end of the generation, so I’m what many people call Zillennial, so I clearly remember my early teenage times when the low-rise, wide-leg jeans were everything. I also remember how uncomfortable these jeans were, and how hard was for us, mediterranean bodied girls, to find the good size… In my head there is a very practical and good reason why we moved forward from this trend. There was no reason at all to bring this back. Yet, you did and not only you did, you made fan of the high-rise skinny jeans that we were wearing for more than a decade after the end of the 00s low-rise, wide-leg jeans era. A decade of high-rise that nobody asked to go away.
While I was checking the latest Google trends, in my surprise I saw some of these millennial trends reaching a peak, the highest of the year. Among the trends we have the Stirrup pants, Skinny Jeans, Hunter Boots, Tight Rolled Jeans, Lace Tank Tops and Le Pilage bag by Longchamp… Or what I call an homage to my adolescence and early adulthood. The trends don’t stop there, and you cannot hide from the data Gen-Z, now the world will know that we are not a joke anymore.

The most searched Millenial Trends the past week
Search interest in “leopard print” reached its second highest point this month since 2012
“going out tops” is searched at a record high this year. Over the past month, the top trending items searched with “going out tops” were “off the shoulder sweater”, “corset” and “lace tops”
Search interest in the “Longchamp Le Pliage” reached an all-time high in September this year and over the past month, users searching for Longchamp also searched Kipling
“tinted sunglasses” was at an all-time high in June this year and over the past month, the top trending tinted sunglasses colors were pink and rose
Kitten heels are being searched more than ever this month. “Slouch boots” and “fyre boots” were breakout searches this month
Isn’t that adorable? I will not show any mercy because there is more and the data don’t lie, especially when they are based on your own researches.
It’s very interesting to me how the times change and what goes around comes around, so next time don’t judge a woman until you’ve walked a mile in her skinny jeans, if I’m allowed to change a bit the famous English proverb.
After all these pleasant surprises, I wanted to see how this manifested in the latest fashion shows and which of these trends we already saw marching in the fashion capitals. I found skinny jeans and big blazers in Marni, Diesel and Hermès among others.
